Muirfield is the club that was formed after Musselburgh, a public course and considered the oldest golf club in the world, got too crowded for the members liking. With the formation of the new club, the Open Championship also moved from Musselburgh to Muirfield in 1892 and has been held there fifteen time since then, the last time in 2002, won by Ernie Els and the next one to be played in 2013. Being a private club there are limited visitor days and it is advisable to plan well in advance if you wish to play here, with visitors days fixed for Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is a fair, inspiring course with delightful surroundings and constantly changing winds in the true classic links mould. Situated just 25 km away from Edinburgh.
