It is one thing to go on a golf holiday and another to participate in a tournament while doing it. A “golf tournament holiday” as it is called is something that golfers from around the world are increasingly looking for. Not only do golfers get to explore exotic new golf courses, they also get a kick out of competing. After all, there is a thrill in amateur golf tournaments, not easily found in a friendly four ball. And while at it, they get to meet other golfers from around the world and start new friendships. One such golf tournament is the Ballantine’s Team-Am Golf Challenge, which has been running for the last 10 years.
In October 2019, the 10th edition of the Ballantine’s Team-Am Golf Challenge was concluded in Jakarta. In fact, this was the first time in the history of this golf tournament series, that a location was repeated. The popularity of the series derives from the fact that it visits a new location each year. Golfers get to experience new cities and play at new golf courses, the very essence of a golf tournament holiday. At the same time, they get to see and experience new culture, cuisine and party like it is done locally.
The “team” in the name implies that it is a team golf tournament. Amateur golfers enter the event in teams of 4 and play 3 golf tournament rounds over 3 different golf courses. In the last edition, these were the best in Jakarta – Royale Jakarta Golf Club, Damai Indah Golf – PIK and Pondok Indah Golf Course, all Asian tour venues. A total of 30 teams made up the field, making for a highly competitive yet fun filled amateur golf tournament. The format of this amateur golf tournament allows both individual and team competitions, although the latter hogs the limelight. Strict handicapping rules and conditions keep the contest fair and engaging to the end.
One of the key elements of this golf tournament holiday is the hospitality. While the competitions keep the golfers engaged, the hospitality paves the way for this. Just like it should in any holiday whether with a golf tournament or without. The Ballantine’s Team-Am Golf Challenge is all about the complete experience and that’s what it strives to deliver. From the airport pick-ups and drops, to the food & beverage carts on the golf course. Or the welcome and prize dinner functions with entertainment thrown in. There is little to worry about, or in fact should we say there is little left to worry about. Almost all the time is taken up in event activities, which make for an amateur golf tournament to remember.
